As it happens, we are still in Iowa. Not a problem as we love it here also. Spring has come here too, despite the weekend forecast. Hellebores and narcissi are peeking through in the back garden. My mom is on the mend and Aimee and I are catching up on some mother daughter time we had lost out on with all the packing and frenzied manner. We took a gorgeous walk all round Bill Bryson's childhood neighborhood yesterday.
(Note to self, must do a photo essay of said neighborhood haunts.)
We watched a male cardinal and two females flit about in the brush of Tonawanda Creek.
And last evening as we sat here playing Life, we saw 5 deer run across Angela's lawn and back to Mike and Peggy's and presumably down the creek's path.
The squirrels are feasting on the bird food we have all put out.
Until we get to Conker Road, and probably after, I will share the goings on there and other bits and pieces.
The photos above are from a summerhouse in an old orchard we love in Cornwall.
Our friend Beth, is very talented indeed. Trevoole Farm is just a hop and a skip from Conker Road. We have spent a good deal of time there. Thought I would share the colours and vibrancy of the place. Beth's family built it out of the remains of one of the 18th century flower farm's glasshouses.
Tea and cake, and when we're there, brownies, are served from it on NGS Open Garden days.
Another neighbor has asked me to do her front garden patio/ terrace garden. What a fun project. We look out on it from the room I write in now. Chairs, a dog cushion, big pots of sub- tropicals, stacks of red pelargoniums....I will take inspiration from the planting downtown which is extraordinary and Chanticleer... and Aimee, who came up with some winning design ideas yesterday. Kurt Kemp, artist and former tutor of mine, believes some people have an innate sense of composition. Some truth in that I think.
